[RECIPE SHARE] Share a healthy Thanksgiving recipes!

Below is a fresh and healthy twist on cranberry sauce from Chrissy at Snacking In Sneakers (and check out her Pinterest board with TONS of healthy recipes: https://www.pinterest.com/ChrissyTheRD/)

HEALTHY CRANBERRY SAUCE
1 cup canned pear halves with juice (about 3 halves, then fill the rest of the cup with the juice from the can)
12 ounce bag of fresh whole cranberries (3 cups)
1 tbsp orange zest
2 tbsp maple syrup

Add pear halves/juice to a small pot. Over medium heat, mash pear halves a few times with the back of a fork or a potato masher.

Add cranberries and orange zest.

Simmer for 10-15 minutes until cranberries have burst. (If you need to, you can add a little water to thin the sauce).

Remove from heat and bring to room temperature before serving. Enjoy!

Notes: If this is too tart for you liking, you can add extra maple syrup to taste.

Share a healthy holiday tip

Example: Importance of sleep during the holiday craziness

Studies have found that people who get less than 7 hours of sleep are at greater risk for poor health and functioning. Physical activity is associated with healthy sleep. Sleep, fitness, and diet are the 3 pillars of health and when one is out of balance, the body is not able to function optimally.

Do you agree? Do you get at least 7 hours of sleep?

Example: Share a picture of a healthy dish using a seasonal product (pumpkins, squash, etc)

[CHALLENGE] I challenge you to make ONE dish using pumpkin this week and share a picture. One person will randomly be selected to win xxxx.

Here are some interesting facts about pumpkins:

  1. Pumpkins are great for your eyesight and 1 cup has more than 200% of your RDA for vitamin A.
  2. Pumpkin is one of the foods recommended for weight loss and to help reduce cholesterol.
  3. Pumpkin is also a great source of B vitamins, which help with cell growth and help to support a healthy metabolism.
  4. Pumpkins have a light diuretic effect. This helps with flushing out toxins and other waste from your body – giving you more energy and leaving you feeling refreshed.
  5. Pumpkin flesh also has something called L-tryptophan, which helps trigger feelings of happiness and well-being.

Pumpkins are incredibly versatile…. they are good in everything from breakfast to dinner!
